George Joseph Lissandrello, a local Palisadian, passed away on June 4th with his family by his side after a yearlong battle with cancer. He was 72 years old. Born in Brooklyn, New York George attended Brooklyn Tech then went on to graduate with a BEE from Manhattan College and promptly began a successful career in telecommunications. He worked for IBM for many years and traveled extensively around the world for his work. He lived in Japan, France, England and Switzerland - to name but a few. He was one of the founders of the Pacific Telecommunications Conference started in 1978, which continues to this day. He was also lifetime member of IEEE, the largest professional association for the advancement of technology. More recently, he worked as an entrepreneur and consultant. His words and work have impacted many lives and continue to influence people around the world. George moved to the Palisades from Hawaii in 2003 and quickly became part of the local scene. Chances are you have met him at the Tivoli with his friends from the Sons of the Roman Empire club or a Chamber of Commerce event. Perhaps you’ve even seen him sing and dance at the Legion or Corpus Christi senior events. Performing since his 20s, he was active in the Palisades Theatre appearing in numerous productions including “A View From the Bridge,” “Plaza Suite” and “Anything Goes.” He was a member of the Corpus Christi Parish, Pacific Palisades Republican Party, and Pacific Palisades Tennis Club. He was a force to be reckoned with and always had a story to tell. A man full of life, songs, lively debate and all done with a twinkle in the eye. He touched many people’s lives whether through work, family or simply meeting a stranger on the street. He had the gift of the gab and could learn your life story in less than 15 minutes - trust us on this. He was an avid fisherman visiting Ireland, Scotland, the Bahamas and Alaska and always returning to his beloved Catskill Mountains in New York. He was well loved and a good man. George is survived by his wife June, his daughters Nicole and Joy, their husbands Dennis and Mark, and grandsons William and Jack. He is also survived by his 94 year-old mother Connie, his sisters, Joyce and Joan, and his brother, Johnny.
